Title:     Igen vs. Boll: Archery Contest
Zmeth folds his wings and crouches while his rider waves cheerfully.
K'tel waits until Zmeth crouches low, then grabs a hold of the riding straps and slides quickly down his side, landing lightly.
Dalynn passes between the large open gates and steps into the courtyard.
Dyane slips her jacket over her light clothing, then holds her bow in her hand firmly. "Boll's duties, K'tel." she calls up, then grins. "Prepared to lose?" She waves to Dalynn.
Dalynn waves to Dyane and nods at the Dragon rider. "Evening Folks."
K'tel laughs, "Igen's duties, Dyane. And not a chance." He waves to Dalynn and Ryglenn too.
Ryglenn chuckles at Dyane as he greets K'tel, "Evenin', Weyrleader."
Dyane's lips turn up in another grin. "Now, Weyrleader ..." she says with a coy tone. "Aren't even going to let a Lady have her fantasy?"
Zianne steps out from the Great Hall, closing the doors.
K'tel grins and bows to Dyane, "If you put it that way, I certainly can't argue." He straightens up, "Of course, if you win, we'll just have to have another rematch." He winks.
Dyane waves as the other archer arrives from the Hall. "Evening, Zianne. You ready to show these Igenites how its done?" She tosses K'tel a wink as she speaks to the baker.
Dalynn says "So where's everyone off to?" He asks, running his hands through his slightly graying hair."
K'tel chuckles.
Ryglenn looks to Zianne and smiles, "Hiya, Zianne."
Zianne grins at Dyane, "Yes, I'm ready." She carries a bow in one hand.
Dyane smiles to the Seacrafter. "Ah, the archery rematch is today at Igen. Anselm will be meeting us there but Ryglenn, Zianne and I are heading out there now to defend Boll's honour. Joining us ...?" Her voice trails off as she looks at the WEyrleader, "If Zmeth can carry us all..."
K'tel nods, "Of course!"
K'tel turns back to the bronze, "Just hand the bows up then climb on."
K'tel vaults onto Zmeth's extended foreleg and hauls himself up between his neckridges.
Dyane smiles. "Wondeful." She wags her finger at Dalynn. "But you need to cheer for us, y'know."
Dalynn chuckles and nods "Aye. Seeing as this is my second home. Id Love to come with."
K'tel pages to Dalynn, Dyane, and Ryglenn: En zmeth to get on. :)
Dyane climbs onto Zmeth with the help of the riding straps and K'tel's extended hand.
Atop Zmeth, Dyane murmurs to K'tel as she settles on Zmeth. "I hope you didn't practice too much. I'll be very disappointed." she teases.
Ryglenn passes his bow up and offers to take Zianne's bow so she can climb aboard.
Atop Zmeth, K'tel laughs, turning to make sure Dyane's settled in, "With you as my competition, Lady? I practiced every chance I got."
Zianne hands Ryglenn her bow and follows Dyane.
Zianne climbs onto Zmeth with the help of the riding straps and K'tel's extended hand.
Atop Zmeth, Dyane laughs, shaking her head. She watches Zianne climb aboard. "I'm in trouble ... "
Ryglenn passes Ziannes bow up and follows, "Comin' Dalynn?"
Dalynn climbs onto Zmeth with the help of the riding straps and K'tel's extended hand.
K'tel grins and straps the bows on securely, "Oh, I'm sure you'll give me quite a run for it."
Dyane grins, looking around Zianne to Ryglenn. "Ryg, you did remember to set up the backup plan in case we're not winning, right?" she winks at the Captain.
K'tel chuckles, "Everyone secure?"
Ryglenn chuckles, "Aye, M'lady..I brought the crooked arrows..incase we're off a little too." He nods to K'tel.
Dyane nods to K'tel.
Dalynn laughs and nods to K'tel. "Aye, all set here."
Zmeth raises his wings, pausing as his rider makes one last check. He crouches and leaps strongly skyward.
Zmeth rises quickly then sweeps over the hold. In moments, only green jungle is below.
K'tel turns his head, "Here we go."
Dalynn says "I hate this part...." He chuckles"
Black...
High above Igen Weyr
Dalynn shivers "Shard! I hate that, being so used to warm airs.."
Zmeth emerges from Between with a blast of cold air!
Zmeth appears above the rim. He bugles as he begins a leisurely glide towards the lake.
K'tel chuckles, looking back, "It's a nice change sometimes."
You furl your wings slightly to glide lower into the Bowl.
Midway up in the Igen Weyr Bowl
Over the Ground in the Igen Weyr Bowl(#769RLae)
Zmeth sweeps into a turn. He glides just above the lake surface, heading for the beach.
Main Beach(#786RJ)
Malent ohhs then gets the courage to clap for her
Sarai smiles, "Some of the lowercaverns folk and I did. AND I helped make the quivers and armguards. It was Janine's idea."
K'tel says "It's not. No ocean nearby. Helps." He waves to the people on the beach then unstraps the bows and looks back, "Everyone make it?"
Dyane chuckles. "Do you happen to lose passengers regularly to ask that question, K'tel?"
Sarai waves to K'tel, "Hey!"
Ryglenn pats himself and grins, "Yup..I'm all here."
Zianne nods, "I'm here."
K'tel grins, "Of course not. Just a few here and there. Careful getting off. It's a long way down." Zmeth rumbles slightly and tries to crouch lower.
K'gen says "I am impressed. They've all done very well."
Sarai chuckles, "Well it's a Weyr affair." And Sarai /sorta/ dressed up for it.
K'gen looks at K'tel, "So, what are we going to blame mis-shots on today?"
Dyane laughs, working her way off Zmeth.
Dyane slides down off of Zmeth with the aid of the riding straps, landing with a jolt.
Dyane says "Boll's duties and such."
Zianne slides down off of Zmeth with the aid of the riding straps.
Ryglenn reaches up to take the bows from K'tel as he hits the ground.
Lyria ambles over from the center of the bowl.
Seraphim walks over from the less sandy beach to the north.
Atop Zmeth, K'tel releases the bows to Ryglenn.
Lyria races up the beach /just/ ahead of Seraphim but trips as she hits sand and sprawls out in a very undignified way and laughs.
Atop Zmeth, K'tel looks back at Dalynn, "It's not too bad. Just hold on to the straps on the way down."
Seraphim stops abruptly about Lyria, panting. "You okay, Lyria?" he asks.
Sarai tugs at her vest and makes certain the white scarf is still on her belt. Foled and wrapped around very carfully. "So we got Igen arrows, and then teh normal white ones for Boll, unless they brought their own...and...Hi Lyria. I was just thinking about you." She grins.
Ryglenn hands Zianne her's and says, "Here ya go...You wanna show me which end is up on mine, Zanne."
Lyria grins, "'Course." She gets up and dusts herself off, "Were you now... well... good luck." She smiles and adds in the spirit of fair play, "To everyone, of course."
K'gen chuckles.
Malent waves quietly to the headwoman, he looks very excited over the game. "I hope we can beat them."
K'tel waits until Zmeth crouches low, then grabs a hold of the riding straps and slides quickly down his side, landing lightly.
Seraphim chuckles at Lyria and at Malent. "Of course we can!" he calls out to him.
K'tel chuckles, "Or stay up there. It is the best seat around." He takes off his riding jacket and walks over to join the others.
Malent says "So who is shooting for us?"
Dyane looks around the lake shore, then at the target with a wrinkled nose. "Can we get the wind to kick up more ... this is no challenge." she winks at the Weyrleader again, trying to work off her nervousness.
Lyria pushes her hair out of her face, well, attempts to and then takes a seat on a rock to watch.
Seraphim sits down on the same rock, looking at the target and at Sarai, K'tel and K'gen. He mutters to Lyria, "We can't... with..."
Ryglenn wanders over to K'gen and grins, "Hey, you! You giving lessons today cuz after lasttime I shoulda got one."
K'tel looks around, "Well, we could have Darloth and Zmeth create a breeze, if that would make you feel better."
Sarai wipes the scoreboard.
Zianne grins and takes her bow from Ryglenn.
Dyane chuckles, shaking her head.
Lyria says "Oh!"
Dalynn slides down off of Zmeth with the aid of the riding straps.
Seraphim looks at Lyria. "What?"
Lyria slips off the rock and runs up the beach, and then comes back bearing a quiver.
Sarai heads over to take the orange/yellow goldish fletched arrow from he bullseye and trots back over to K'tel etc. "You do, K'tel, and I'll have Cyrath tell them not to. Be fair."
K'gen laughs, "Are you kidding, Ryglenn. It was close!
Lyria takes her seat again and puts it down behind the rock.
Sarai ties her quiver belt tighter and wriggles her hips to get it to settle. Unladylike but...
K'tel laughs, "I was only trying to oblige Lady Dyane, Sarai. Have mercy!"
Dyane chuckles at the junior weyrwoman before taking a few steps toward Ryglenn. "You've my bow?" she asks him, eyeing the two he's left holding.
Sarai snorts at K'tel, "Watch out you, or I'll make this a boys versus girls fight."
K'gen laughs.
A few residents fuss about, setting up two rows of arrows. One set fletched in white, and the other in yellow and black (representing Igen).
K'tel ducks his head and slinks over to get his bow. He stops by the stack of arrows, "Ooh! Nice! Where'd we get these?"
Ryglenn chuckles and nods o K'gen, "True.." He turns to Dyane and smiles, "Yeah..Umm." He looks at the two he's hoolding and passes her the one not his. "Here ya go."
Dyane takes her bow with a smile at her Captain before turning to eye the target.
Sarai steps aside, tugging her wrist brace on and slipping up to stand by Lyria for a moment. "So you've come to watch me embaress myself?"
Lyria grins, "Well, no, but if you do I'll watch... hey..."
Lyria reaches down behind the rock and pulls up a new quiver, decorated with sheep.
Lyria says "I brought this but I know it's late for it now."
K'tel shrugs and grabs his bow. He picks up a handful of the black and yellow arrows too then walks back over. "Allright. I'm ready."
Sarai blinks and giggles at Lyria, "Oh wow...Ovines!"
Lyria grins, "Yup. Janine does beautiful work."
K'gen wipes the scoreboard.
Sarai takes teh quiver and kisses Lyria's cheek, "You remembered!":
Lyria grins, "Hard to forget, around you."
Dyane makes a face at K'tel, preparing herself for the challenge. "Which pair is first?" she asks, securing her wrist brace and rolling her arm.
Lyria smiles, "I think that's your cue."
Dalynn crawls under his covers and falls fast asleep.
K'gen seems to be working out a roster, thinking, but working fast.
Sarai wiggels her eyebrows, trying to look lecherous, but just appearing cute. "yes'm. Root for me." And she trots back over to K'tel and the 'team' "Are we short, K'gen?"
K'tel chuckles at Dyane's expression and leans over to tell her quietly, "I promise to miss a few - but only if I'm ahead."
K'gen says "We're short by one."
K'gen says "And there is one from Boll that is registered, but they are not here yet."
Zianne takes a deep breath and fidgets nervously.
Dyane flashes a smile up at K'tel, giving him an arch look. "Don't count your dragonets until they've hatched, Weyrleader. WHo says you will ever be ahead."
Devon ambles over from the center of the bowl.
Sarai grins, "Well it evens, doesn't it?"
K'gen says "Evens?"
Sarai says "If wach team is short one, K'gen, then we're okay...Right?"
K'tel grins, "Exactly." He looks around the beach, "Ah! Devon. Just in time. Come shoot on Igen's team." He pauses, "You can shoot, right?"
Janine ambles over from the center of the bowl.
Devon arches a brow as he looks at K'tel, giving a slight nod. "Shoot? If you mean archery, yes, I can shoot..."
Taya ambles over from the center of the bowl.
K'tel smiles, "Good. We need one more person."
K'gen says "Taya!"
Sarai replaces her bland quivver for one decorated in ovines, and slings that on.
Taya waves with her free hand, the other is holding Janine's. "Hi K'gen."
Devon casts a forlorn look at whatever was in his hands, then shrugs and lets it drop to the sand, making his way towards K'tel. "All right," he says with a grin.
Lyria kicks her legs and waves as people arrive.
Janine smiles and pushes Taya forward. "You're a better shot. You can do it." she whispers.
Taya laughs and points to Devon, "I think he is volunteering."
K'gen nods, "we're balanced... now."
Sarai smirks at K'gen, "When is a rider /ever/ balanced?"
K'gen smiles and chuckles, "Well, we'll see."
K'tel grins, "Now now, Sarai." He looks at Devon with a smile, "There's an extra bow over by the arrows. How good a shot are you?"
Taya folds her skirt under herself and taks a seat.
Sarai hefts her bow, "Hey, you missed my bullseye in practice."
Dyane nods approvingly. "A good turnout even with the gather."
Devon holds his hands up to inspect, then gives an innocent shrug. "Pretty good, I'd say. I may be a bit biased, but..."
Lyria smiles at the Lady Holder, "It's not so noisy."
Janine sits next to Taya, but stands part way back up to arrange her unfamiliar garment... a skirt, before finally sitting.
K'gen seems to be rewriting things and nods, "Okay. I think I got this worked out... I want to thank all of you for coming and I hope ... nay, I know we WILL have a good time and afterwards I think there will be things to eat as well. Ryglenn, Darloth's still waiting for his scrubbing too ... but we can wait until after the next fall." He winks.
Dyane nods, "Thank Faranth." She quiets as she listens to K'gen.
Sarai smiles at Dyane, "And less people. Gather's are too crowded."
Ryglenn smiles as he watches and listens to everyone. He drifts to the arrows Boll will use and takes one up and looks it over as K'gen metions the scrubbing he nods and says, "My apologies to Darloth for the delay by the way."
K'tel grins at Devon, "Good. We need all the help we can get."
K'gen says "Now, I know that we're all very good archers and represent what I'd dare to call the best this side of Pern. I have made the shooting order ... it is in no way in reflection of the ability of the archers as it was chosen pretty much with the point of a finger."
Sarai chuckles at K'gen. "The finger of doom!:
Dyane laughs, "We're in trouble now."
K'gen says "One of the people that is on the list from Boll has not arrived yet. They will, if they are able to make it, be able to shoot the number of shots done and add to the team scores provided they arrive. (looks at Ryglenn)."
Ryglenn grins and shrugs, "Works for me..He's always fashionably late ya know."
K'tel looks over at Ryglenn, "Who's missing?"
Dyane smirks. She mutters to Ryglenn.
Ryglenn says "Oh..Umm..Anselm..Assistant Steward."
K'tel gives Dyane a mildly suspicious look, "Ah, I see."
K'gen nods, "As hosts for this, I believe that it would be only fitting if our distinguished guests, the archers of South Boll, to go first. The order of shooting for Boll is: (Anselm), Zianne, Ryglenn, and Lady Dyane. For Igen, Weyrleader K'tel, Jr. Weyrwoman Sarai, myself, and Devon.
Dyane gives K'tel an obviously false look of exaggerated innocence, her green eyes wide.
Sarai ohs and grins at Dyane, "This is going to be fun...I hope I can hold my own. Beating K'tel is one thing..."
Dyane grins at Sarai. "I'm just looking forward to having K'tel eat his words is all."
K'tel snorts at Dyane's look then eyes Sarai, "Hey!" He grins, "Good thing we're on the same team this time."
Ryglenn looks around as he fumbles with the arrow he'd picked up and smiles at Zianne, "Anselm isn't here, so I guess you're up first."
K'tel shakes his head, "I'm starting to think I might be in trouble this time."
K'gen says "We will start in about 2 minutes so we can all create good excuses if we should miss a few times."
Lyria gestures to Taya and Janine, "Lots of room on this rock... and hard to get hit too."
Janine smiles and stands. "I agree... I'm getting sand up my... ah... that looks much more comfortable, Lyria.
Sarai shakes her head, "No no, Lady Dyane, we're pretty good here at Igen. I have a target on my ledge."
Janine makes her way to Lyria's rock and hops up to sit next to her.
Zianne nods at Ryglenn. "Well hopefully he'll get here before we start." But she walks to where the Boll arrows are and picks one up."
Dyane grins at Sarai, biting back a slew of comments she could make.
K'tel steps over to stand by Devon, "I think I'm safer over here."
Dyane grins. "I was going to ask who is your weyrmate."
Devon has since crossed his arms over his chest and looks over to grin at K'tel. "Think so? Well, we'll see..."
K'tel chuckles, "I'm not sure but at least I can hide behind you if need be."
Lyria smiles at Janine and Taya.
Dyane grins at Zianne as she sees Anselm arrive. "Ah, you are safe from being first."
Sarai smirks at Dyane, "I have a not-weyrmate."
Taya arranges her skirt and smiles at Lyria, "How are you?"
Anselm arrives, adjusting the sleeves of his slightly ruffed red shirt, and looking rather dapper indeed. He carries s bag with him, though he is sans bow. He curses. "I lost track of time," he says to all gathered as he arrives, hiuried.
Devon smirks. "Well, if -that's- the case, why not just get Zmeth over here? Then we can -both- hide behind -him-," he says, winking.
Drama comes with Anselm, primly holding the edges of her skirts with a Practiced Lady Walk; her chin is lifted up.
K'gen smiles, "Now, just to say again... from Boll: Anselm, Zianne, Ryglenn, and Dyane. From Igen: K'tel, Sarai, myself, and Devon. Does anyone see a problem with this shooting order or wishes to contest it?"
Lyria smiles at the girls and then says to Taya with a chuckle, "Busy... a bit tired... and I should be working but I couldn't resist, as it's right here in the bowl."
Zianne nods, obviously relieved.
Dyane shakes her head. "No problems."
K'tel grins, "I might need him to make a breeze if things go too badly."
Anselm bows to all assembled. "Greetings and salutations from Boll, with a stop in Bitra...who has a bow? I believe I am crossbow, if my Igenite coounterpart is here with his or hers?"
Annie smiles as she comes in on the tail end of her sister and her... er, the Steward. With a polite nod to the assembled, she finds a spot off to the sides with a good view. "Drama, you're gonna have to let him do what he needs to do; come sit with me?"
Ryglenn notices Anselm and his followers; he nods to Anselm and says, "Glad you could make it." He smiles at Annie and Drama, "Heya, kids!"
K'tel remembers that K'gen just said something. He shakes his head, "Sounds good to me, K'gen!"
Janine nods. "You've been working hard. Your troubles with the baker must have been tiring too. Did you get to see Master Ofira?"
K'gen smiles, "Great. Now, Boll will be going first as our guest. Let's begin. :)"
Anselm raises a finger at Drama and Annie, "Do I get my good luck kisses first?" He adjusts an elegant sleeve, then walks towards Annie, puckering his lips for a kiss.
Drama waves madly at her Uncle, small hand flying about. "UNCLE RYGLENN!" like the poor man is deaf.
Devon chuckles softly, then follows K'tel's example. "No problem here." And then he turns to look over at the Boll archers, eyes narrowed as if sizing them up.
Lyria shakes her head no, "I decided to wait until after the Gather."
Annie chucles softly, covering her lips once demurly before standing on toe to deliver said good luck charm. "Of course," she murmers. My, what a nice shade of pink she is.
K'gen says "The rule is that we will shoot until we hit 30 points. Everyone gets a equal number of shots though. So when we hit 30, that will be the LAST round."
Sarai grins, "I'm a-okay with it, K'gen."
K'gen says "Okay, Anselm, you're up."
Ryglenn laughs at Drama and walks over, "How ya doin' tonight, Guard Cadet Kid? You wanna do this for me?"
Dyane calls out, "C'mon, Anselm. Let's beat the trousers off of the Igenites." Oh, how very Lady Holderlike that was.
K'tel winces at the little girl's yell. He grins, "Good thing Aellya took mine off today. They'd probably be running in front of the target about now."
Anselm nods to K'gen after stealing a kiss off Drama's forehead. The bow is taken in hand. He winks to Dyane. "Done." In elegant pose, he aims...
Drama would deliver her Good Luck Kiss, which she's sure is Pretty Bestest, but is distracted by Ryglenn. Besides, Annie apparently has that covered. "What'da I gotta do?" She asks eagerly.
Drama gets all kissed on the forhead, though.
Anselm misses the target completely. Look out spectators, dragons, and lizards!
Ryglenn points to Anselm as he prepares to shoot and says to Drama after the shot, "Not that."
Anselm winces visibly. Very much so. A gentle red blush appears on his cheeks that threatens to blend his face with the shirt he wears.
K'tel looks over at his dragon, "None of that, Zmeth. Give the poor man a chance!"
Taya hrmms "She had a problem with the baker?"
Dyane nods, calling out. "Good job, Anselm ... give them some confidence before we crush them."
Ryglenn smiles at Anselm and shrugs, "First shot..no matter." He turn to Zianne, "After you."
Zmeth blinks at his rider, not having moved at all.
Drama scratches at her head, dislodging a big bouncy curl. "I gotta not miss? But I ain't shoot'n."
K'gen says "Dyane, you're next... :)"
K'gen says "Oh, sorry, Zianne..."
K'gen says "Sorry, Dyane."
Anoelm eyes Annie. He walks towards her, arms open wide, "Another kiss, m'dear! I apaprently did not catch the first properly." Hard to tell if teh Steward wants reassurance or honest luck. No matter, the same result is what he hopes for.
Ryglenn snickers at Drama, "Oh..that's right..Okay. I'll handle it." He ruffles her hair and steps closer to the line waiting for Zianne.
Zianne nods and steps up to the target. "Lets hope I can do better than Anselm." She nocks her arrow, aims, and fires.
Zianne scores a hit on the target in the first circle from the rim, scoring one point.
Dyane grins. "That's alright.
Dyane applauds.
Drama looks slyly up at Ryglenn, that Traders Gleam in her bright blue eyes. "Unless... you're gonna let me shoot?" Um, this is a good idea?
K'gen smiles.
K'gen says "Ryglenn, you're up."
Ryglenn applauds Zianne, "There ya go..." He steps up to the line, arrow at the ready and raises his bow.
Ryglenn scores a hit on the target in the second circle from the rim, scoring two points.
K'tel smiles, "Good shot!"
K'gen says "Good shot, Ryglenn. Lady Dyane, you're up."
Annie laughs, rolling her eyes softly. "You're just being silly, you know that." But she rewards her missed archer anyway with more 'good luck'.
Ryglenn steps back and grins, "We're a gradual bunch I guess."
K'tel blinks and starts stringing his bow.
Anselm grins at Annie, winks, and turns back to Ryglenn, clapping. "Slow and steady eh? A fine shot, Captain."
Hey, all Them Guys is hitting that Marker Guy Thingie. Drama thinks this deserves some loud hand clapping--so she does. WHAP-WHAP-WHAP. "Yay all you Shooting Guys, yay!"
Dyane takes a deep breath then says. "Don't curse me, Ryglenn." She aims.
Dyane scores a hit on the target in the first circle from the rim, scoring one point.
Sarai grins at the Boll scores.
Ryglenn chuckles at Dyane and says, "Well, you blew that theory, M'Lady."
K'gen says "We're all warming up.... K'tel, you're up."
Devon claps K'tel on the shoulder. "Zmeth is standing by with that breeze," he teases.
Anselm raises a finger to his lips at Drama. "You could hurt their concentration. He walks over to her, and bends down, indicating teh target. "Questions?" he asks her QUIETLY.
K'gen laughs.
K'tel grins at Devon then nods to Dyane as he moves up. He makes a big deal out of stretching his arms, testing the nonexistent breeze, knocking his arrow, and taking careful aim.
Dyane heads back to stand by Zianne and Ryglenn. "You cursed me." she murmurs, watching K'tel.
Drama waits for Ryglenn to be done before going to tug on his pants. "Hey, you know what? I think you was offer'n me to shoot, wasn't you? I bet I can shoot really good like." Pulled aside by Anselm, and looking, well, not really contrite at all, she looks back at Ryglenn, waiting. "Jut to know if I can shoot too or not."
Ryglenn grins at Devon, "Hey, what if a back-breeze is needed, does Zmeth inhale?"
K'tel scores a direct bullseye! Five points!
Zmeth snorts.
K'tel blinks, "Oh!"
K'gen blinks.
Annie finds a seat in the soft sand, folding her legs under her and watching with a bemused expression.
Dyane's mouth drops open then she presses her lips together. "Well done, K'tel." she smiles.
Janine claps and yells! "Yay K'tel!"
Devon casts his glance at Ryglenn. "Apparently," he says, applauding for K'tel as he hits a bullseye.
Sarai chuckles, "Darn it, K'tel! You practiced!"
K'gen says "Sarai, you're up. :)"
Ryglenn arcs a brow and looks at the bronze of whom he asked about. He grins and applauds the bulseye, "Nice shot Weyrleader."
K'tel turns around and bows to Dyane, "Thank you, my lady." He shrugs at Sarai and mouths, "Lucky shot?" He gets out of the way.
"So did I," Anselm bemoans. "A fne shot--I am glad to see practice worked for someone." He laughs to the Igenite Weyrleader.
"Because, I bet I shoot real well." Drama adds, not giving up in that way five turn olds won't.
Annie calls, "Drama. Why don't you leave the nice people alone?" Though nice and friendly like, the Older Sister is Annoyed Tone is clear and marked for trouble.
Sarai salutes to K'gen and juantily walks up to the 'line'. Plucking one of the 'igen' arrows (yellow and black!) she spins it twixt her fingers. "Well, you only live once," says the goldrider, amused. Then her face slides to seriousness, the play fading. Drawing the arrow back, the fletching tickles Sarai's right ear before she relases it with a nice 'tWAng.'
Sarai scores a hit on the fourth circle from the rim, scoring four points.
Ryglenn smiles at Drama and says, "If I'm doin' badly I'll let you take over."
K'gen smiles, "Good job, Sarai."
K'tel chuckles at Anselm and comments, "I'm glad it worked. It didn't during practice." He watches Sarai's shot and claps.
Janine whoops! "Way to go, Sarai!"
K'gen steps up to the line and stands in his perpendicular stance.
K'gen scores a hit on the fourth circle from the rim, scoring four points.
Sarai ehs at that, "Not half bad," she remarks, pleased with her shot. "Not a /perfect/ shot, but respectable.":
K'gen says "Devon, you're up next."
Devon looks over at K'gen, a bit in surprise, then nods and takes one of Igen's arrows.
Devon misses the target completely. Look out spectators, dragons, and lizards!
Janine ducks! "Shards!"
Ryglenn shakes his head and smiles, "Don't worry Boll...We're just makin' 'em comfortable."
Drama smirks, strutting over to Annie and throwing herself down; skirts flapping around her wildly. "Did'ja here that? Uncle /Ryglenn/ is gonna let me shoot for him when he's doin' badly."
Anselm claps politely for Sarai, saying to her, "It certainly looked good to me. " He offers the lady a handsome smile, then pats Drama,"How abotu after this, we try a few rounds together, hmm? We'll find a bow your size."
K'gen smiles, "Nice tries.... nice tries."
Devon grimaces. "Well... I don't want to get all my bullseyes right away," he gives as an excuse.
Drama beams back at Anselm, liking this Shooting Game more and more.
K'tel nods to Devon, "Good idea. We'll need some later when Boll catches up."
Anselm blinks at Drama, "Annie, Drama, come here? We'll have a good match and then some ahh...family time." His grin to Drama is sweet and hopeful. The same to Annie.
K'gen says "The first round is over: Current scores, 13 to 4, Igen. The individual score has to hit 30 to indicate the last round. Anselm, it's your turn."
Devon grins, and nods to K'tel, obviously pleased with his excuse as he moves back beside the Weyrleader to watch the next round.
Annie rolls her eyes softly at the child, "I don't think you really want to say it that way, kido."
Anselm nods politely to K'gen, stepping up to the place for shooting. He rolsl up his sleeves, easy to do in his loose clothes. He settles, then narrows an eye just /so/ before shooting...

Anselm gets what Drama is saying. He rubs her forehead. "I think I will have to do without...or you shouldn't blow so hard? Are you alright, sweetheart?" heliftsa chin to Annie, "She going red?"
Dyane scores a hit on the third circle from the rim, scoring three points.
Ryglenn walks back and stands beside Zianne. "Flour, umm..what else goes in bread?"
Sarai claps for Dyane, "You're getting better, Lady Dyane."
"Salt," Anselm offers.
Dyane grins, walking back.
K'gen says "Nice shot. K'tel?"
Sarai says to Ryglenn, "Yeast."
Dyane says "Water"
Sarai says "Butter."
K'tel smiles, shaking his head, "Time to turn this around." He takes a deep breath and careful aim.
K'tel misses the target completely. Look out spectators, dragons, and lizards!
Ryglenn smiles, "Thnk you all for your help with my new career path."
Zianne grins at Ryglenn, "Yeast, yes salt, water, butter..."
K'gen says "Oooh. Sorry K'tel. Sarai?"
K'tel groans, "Zmeth! Wake up. I need help!" He moves back.
"Depends on the bread," Anselm corrects Sarai politely. "I would never use butter for a soda bread--it would destroy the texture."
Janine grins, "A pinch of salt too. maybe a dash of milk?
Annie hmms over at the steward and the sister, peering more at the smaller version of herself. "Maybe... Drama?" She motions the girl over, "Why don't you sit for a while?"
A young lady eeks! as K'tel's arrow whizzes through her fancy hairdo. Oops.
Ryglenn laughs, "Alright..yeesh.." he muuters, "Ask one question."
K'tel shrugs helplessly at the young lady, "Sorry!"
Dyane walks over to K'tel, then smiles. "I do want to thank you most sincerely for your lovely archery steps that I now now how to do."
Sarai removes her bow from resting on her thigh, and returns to the line. "Honestly K'tel..." She teases the bronzerider and steps up to grab her arrow of choice. "Ah..." Her breathing is calmed, as if by some larger power that reaches from within and quiets the active youth's motion. Calm. breath in and draw back. Breath out and aim, breath in and relax, breath out and release. The solid twang whizzes past Sarai as the fletchings stir the hair on the back of her neck.
Sarai scores a hit on the fourth circle from the rim, scoring four points.
K'tel laughs, inclining his head to Dyane, "Anytime. I'm glad to help. Now if you could just give me a few pointers..."
K'gen smiles, "Nice shot, Sarai...
K'gen grins.
K'gen misses the target completely. Look out spectators, dragons, and lizards!
K'gen ooofffs. "Devon?"
Devon gives a soft sigh, then moves towards the line.
Devon scores a hit on the fourth circle from the rim, scoring four points.
Anselm is rubbing Drama's back, encouraging her to sit. "Interesting technique," hemurmurs to Annie, commenting on Sarai's shot. Or was it K'gen's. Noth were interesting.
K'gen mmmms and calculates the scores.
Drama nods softly, dimpled hands still to her head. "Yeah, all spinny. Too much huffing for me." Throwing herself down, because Drama never does anything half-way, she wiggles down next to her sister.
K'gen says "Okay. We have Sarai at 27, meaning we're almost at the end.... Current score is 73 to 61, Igen. Still quite close. Anselm?"
"Try it and see?" Annie offers the steward.
Sarai rubs the back of her neck. "Interesting," is all she says.
Anselm nods politely, delaying a few seconds as he tends to Drama. He gives her a kiss. "Dont' worry, spratling. I'll muddle through on my own." He steps up. He positions, again perfect. Hs eyes narrow into little slits as he pauses to get his line. Then...
*SPRONG!*
Anselm scores a hit on the target in the first circle from the rim, scoring one point.
Anselm looks up at the sky. "Do I havea blister I don't know about?" he shrugs. "Oops." He blushes elegantly, grinning.

Taya grins, "Sarai is on fire, love."
Dyane scores a hit on the third circle from the rim, scoring three points.
"Spratling? What's a spratling?" Drama isn't sure to laugh or be annoyed.
Sarai smiles at K'tel, "Practice, K'tel. I told you I have a target on my ledge."
K'gen says "Good shot, Dyane. K'tel, you're up."
Ryglenn makes like he's lookin' for water..."Fire she said..look a lake."
Janine nods. "Yes she is! Thnk it's the flight?"
Anselm claps for Dyane as he sits with Drama, placing her on his lap. helaughs. "it's a little endearing term. A great many seafarers use it. Are you complaining? Shall I call you That Sweet Littel Spratling Guy?"
K'tel shakes his head, "Target on my ledge..." He moves into position, "Dangerous thought."
Annie chuckles, laying a hand on her sisters'. "Nothing, don't worry."
K'tel scores a direct bullseye! Five points!
K'tel blinks, "Maybe not!" He grins and moves back.
K'gen blinks, "Nice shot, K'tel."
K'gen says "Sarai?"
Janine hollers! "Yay, K'tel!"
Annie's hands on Drama's--which is now in Anselm's lap. Aw, how sweet.
Dyane heys, looking at K'tel. "I forgot to do those movements."
Anselm says "A fine shot. The form was perfectly, Weyrleader."
Anselm pauses. "Perfect. I speak Pernese well this evening, I see."
Taya grins "I don't know."
K'tel says "Thank you, thank you." He smiles at Dyane, "I wasn't going to remind you." He winks at Janine and Taya."
Drama lays her currled head on Anselm's shoulder. "Hmmm, Ida know. That's pretty long, and I'm already Drama Dalegard, Guarding Guy of Boll and the Cookies, part Time trading Guy."
"I know," Anselm murmrus to Drama as he leans his chin very gently on his foster's head. "I'd agree that you could use a shorter name. So how about Spratlingpart-time? Deal?" The magic word. "What do you think, Annie."
K'gen grins.
Sarai hmms and smiles at K'gen, "If you didn't keep reminding me..." She chuckles at herself and walks up to pluck an arrow. Twirling the black and yellow fletching in her hand, Sarai plants a foot firmling behind the line. Toes up, she inhales to draw the bowstring back, An exhale as she lowers it slightly and aims. Another inhale for a pause....and her shoot is on the exact moment her breath is expelled from her lips.
Sarai misses the target completely. Look out spectators, dragons, and lizards!
Annie coughs, looking away before she can laugh. "My thats, um, some name you have for her, Anselm."
Sarai hmms softly, 'Can't be on the ball /all/ the time..."
K'gen blinks and mmms.
Ryglenn applauds, "She saved us."
K'gen says "Nice try, Sarai...."
K'gen smiles and takes his pose.

Dyane chuckles. "Huzzah for Sarai from Boll."
Devon applauds for K'tel and K'gen, then moves over to take his place at the line.
Anselm frowns at Annie,"I didn't add all those titles," he protests softly. He almost misses Sarai's misfire. Almost. "I think you released a little early," he comments.
Devon misses the target completely. Look out spectators, dragons, and lizards!
K'tel grins, "Next time. Don't worry."

Zianne --- 15
Dyane woohoos again.
K'gen ooofs. And starts to tabulate.
Janine smiles, "Another step closer to winning, team. You're getting there."
Sarai hms and nods, "I wasn't steady enough. Too far to the right again. I keep doing that." She shakes her head at Anselm. "To the left on my target on my ledge is my weyr tho..."
Ryglenn smiles, "Hmm..Game ain't over yet...I like it."
Devon does grin slightly after this shot. "Either you chose the wrong day to have this contest, K'tel, or you should've took Taya."
Annie chuckles, "No, the child is more then capable of adding her own."
Dyane claps, "C'mon, Anselm ... let's catch up!"
K'gen says "Okay. The personal score holder is Sarai with 27.... Scores are very close now. 79 to 71, Igen. Anselm, you're up."
K'tel hmms in response to Devon, glancing over at Taya. He grins, "One never knows. I think Boll was just practicing more than they let on."
K'tel comments to Devon, K'gen and Sarai, with a chuckle "We've got to end this quick or they'll get ahead."
"You're up, that means I'm done!" Drama hops off, landing near Annie. "And the name's Drama, missy. Not 'child'."
K'gen chuckles and nods to K'tel.
Sarai smiles ay K'tel, "Is that an order, weyrleader sir?"
Anselm rises from his family, then walks towards the appointed place, offering a somewhat perplexedglance at Sarai. "Your weyr? You must be tired?" A polite smile. He raises the bow and aims with little to-do.
Anselm scores a hit on the target in the first circle from the rim, scoring one point.
K'tel grins at Sarai, "I'm not that silly."
Ryglenn chuckles, 'Aahh..Y'all don't have to listen to him."
Still ineffective. "Ach, too far left." Anselm returns to sit with Annie and Drama. "Now I worry for teh hunt. I shall come back boarless, no doubt." He grins.
Sarai winks at K'tel and remarks to Anselm, "Not really. I've been catching up on sleep since the flight."
K'gen says "Zianne, you're up."
Dyane applauds Anselm, one point is better than none. She watches Zianne.

Anselm covers his mouth, amused at Dyane's antics.
Annie snickers, watching her usually Lady of Decorum dance.
K'tel shakes his head, laughing.
Dyane scores a hit on the fourth circle from the rim, scoring four points.
Anselm sits with Drama on his lap, and asides to Annie, "Think that would help nmy performance?"
Ryglenn chuckles at Dyane, "Very nice..."
Dyane blows lightly on her fingernails, buffing them on her shirt. "Ah, still works."
K'gen says "Nice shot, Dyane. K'tel, you're up."
Janine claps. "Good hit, Ma'am."
Drama crawls back up onto Anselm's lap, her light headedness showing again. Quickly, she falls asleep. Zonk.
K'tel gives a long suffering sigh as he walks past. "I tell you..." He takes careful aim, not giving in to the temptation to dance again.
K'tel misses the target completely. Look out spectators, dragons, and lizards!
K'gen ooofs at K'tel. "Is your arm feeling okay? Sarai, you're up.
Dyane oohs at K'tel, frowning slightly. "Dance next time, K'tel. Please."
K'tel makes a face, "I suppose I should start that again." He moves out of the way, "Okay, Sarai. Win!"
Sarai looks at K'tel and promtly moves towards the line, "He's not used to holding something up for so long," quips Sarai. Her arrow is gotten and Sarai hold the bow up for a moment. left arm straigh, she lowers in slowly, in tune with her own breathing. Ignorant of teh crowd, and K'tel's words, Sarai balances the arrow and gently draws the bow-string back. As teh fletchings most one at a time past her right ear, Sarai inhales. An exhale and another inhale mark her aiming. Then the final exhale. Timing it just so to shoot ...

Devon nods and, after narrowing his eyes and placing the arrow just so, he takes aim and fires.

K'gen eeeks.... and starts tabulating scores.
Anselm hmms. "She is ratehr good," he asides to Annie. Drama stays settled on hi s lap, he stroking her hair as she sHe winces for Devon.leeps.
K'gen says "Well, we have our winner, Sarai, with 32 points. Final Score: Igen with 84, Boll with 81. Difference of 3 points. Very close game. Sarai is our top winner, Dyane in second place, Ryglenn in third, and myself, Zianne, and Anselm in third."
K'gen says "I will, of course, doublecheck the scores."
K'tel heys, "Where am I?"
Sarai slings her bow over her shoulder. "I won?" She blinks, this just now hitting her.
Annie reaches over to finger comb Drama's curls from her sleeping eyes. "Yes, she is." Who 'she' is is a mystry by her tone.
K'gen says "Oh, K'tel is third. The rest of us with 17 at 4th."
Ryglenn walks over and offers a hand to Sarai, "Very good shooting...Now i know who I have to beat next time. Congratulations."
Taya smiles and stands holdin her hand out to Janine. "I'm ready to head in, love. Would you like to come with me?"
K'tel smiles at Dyane, "Oops. Guess I get to give out those rides I promised."
Sarai huhs, rather in a touch of shock about that. "Thank you, Ryglenn," she says, suddenly full of pride and delight. "We ought to go a round sometime." Clasping the man's hand firmly, she grins ear to ear.
Ryglenn chuckles and nods, "We should..but first I have to beat my Lady Holder."
Janine grins. "Yes. It was a great contest. All the archers did beautifully." She waves to the others as she tiredly follows along next to Taya.
Dyane smiles at K'tel, then blinks at Ryglenn. "You have to what?" She missed what he said.
Anselm smiles. "A very good tournament, all-in-all." He asides to Annie, 'I was commenting on Sarai's shooting. It was quite impresive."
K'gen doublechecks everything. "Yup, 84 to 81, Igen. Sarai wins with 32, Dyane with a 26, Ryglenn with a 21, K'tel with a 19, and myself, Anselm and Zianne with 17. Those are the final scores. But I think we've all done exceptionally well.
Janine leaves the beach, heading for the center of the Bowl.
Devon bends down to retrieve whatever it was he had dropped earlier, then walks off towards the bowl in a hurry.
K'tel chuckles, unstringing his bow, "We have a nice dinner waiting inside to celebrate."
"Sarai!" Dyane calls out to the junior weyrwoman. "I guess it takes women to show these men how this game works."
Taya leaves the beach, heading for the center of the Bowl.
Taya has left.
K'gen grins, "food?!"
Ryglenn grins at Dyane, "I have to outshoot you, M'lady..that's all I was sayin'."
Sarai smiles at Dyane, "I'll be honst, Lady Dyane, I never knew I had it in me..."
K'gen chuckles at Sarai, "If it wasn't for you, Dyane would have beat us all. :)"
Ryglenn smiles, He mutters to Dyane, "... were... you..."
K'gen smiles at Dyane, "Well shot. I heard rumors of your practicing."
Anselm picks Drama up, hrming softly. "Food sounds like an excellent choice...but I have a sleeping child to put to bed. Should we be off? Or is ther ean accomodation?"
Dyane grins at Sarai and K'tel. She mutters to Ryglenn.
K'tel smiles at Sarai, nodding agreement with K'gen, "Good job, Sarai."
Dyane straightens, motioning to K'tel. "I heard rumors of his practicing day and night, K'gen. Of course I was going to take a practice or two."
K'tel looks over at Anselm, "Plenty of room around here. There's a guest room in the inner caverns. I can show you where."
Sarai scratches her head, amused at it all. "Thanks, K'tel..."
Annie looks up at Anselm and her sister in his arms. "Or, I can take her. She might wake up and not know where she is."
Anselm says "Will she be attended by a nanny during dinner? She often wakses afetr an hour or two, wanting a glass of water."
"Are you sure?" Anselm turns to Annie, concerned. 'I didnt' want you to miss dinner."
K'tel nods, "Or we can put her in the nursery that always has someone in it."
Ryglenn shake shis head at Dyane and turns to K'gen, "Well, that was fun..You and I are even now..except for the dragonbath which I still owe."
Anselm says "I think the nursetry better suits, if Annie agrees--Drama is only five."
K'tel smiles, "Sure. This way." He starts heading off towards the center of the bowl.
Anselm leaves the beach, heading for the center of the Bowl.
Location: Igen Weyr - Lake Shore

Blacker...
Blackest!
Below you lies the Bowl of Igen Weyr. Founded after High Reaches Weyr in the First Interval, this Weyr's spectacular shape is due largely to the desert winds which have eroded it sharply. The red layers of sandstone seem warm and inviting from this height, especially when you consider that inside the Bowl itself one is protected from the winds that first packed the stone and now erode it. Here and there igneous intrusions may be seen, grey against the red along the range that separates the Igen desert to the west from the Igen River floodplain to the east. With the blast of the warm winds, however, there is no forgetting that you are in the Igen desert, and looking to the west, you might think for a moment that all of Pern is a sandbox.
Far below you lie the inviting grounds of the Igen Weyr Bowl. Westwards the well-worn rim of the Bowl is flat enough for a landing.
All around, the peaks of Igen Weyr reach up past you to the sky, like the fingers of a hand. The weather beaten caldera is clearly oval shaped, shielding you somewhat from the winds that whip their way over the desert to the west, although the air currents remain tricky and even the most experienced dragons stay somewhat on their guard in this area. Heat permeates the Igen Bowl, the air shimmering slightly.
Far below, the ground looks like a patchwork quilt - the blue of the Igen lake to the northwest, a patch of green to the southwest promising the feeding grounds, and various shades of brown and yellow-green in between. Openings can be seen in most of the walls of the Bowl at this height, their ledges providing a sunny spot for the weyr's fighting dragons.
The oval shaped caldera surrounds you, and the peaks which cast long shadows across the Bowl at various times of the day reach up past you to the sky, towering in all directions. There is a sense of productivity in the air, with dragons flying to and fro on business all over the Bowl. The air is slightly cooler closer to the ground, although that's scant consolation to those visitors from the north who are unaccustomed to the desert climate.
Down to the northwest, the glint of water betrays the lake's position, while to the northeast a large field leads to the Pass out of the Weyr, and a large gap in the wall betrays the location of the Weyr's Hatching Grounds. Southeast, the activity indicates the main entrance to the inner Weyr, and the sounds of herdbeasts travel on the wind from the southwest. Straight below lies the center of the Bowl. A few ground weyrs are accesible from this level.
Dyane hmms, thoughtfully. "Doesn't seem as windy here ..."
This is one of the most popular sections of the Igen Bowl, and the reason can't really be mistaken. The lake to the north provides a refreshing change from the heat that characterizes the climate of this area. A small beach of pumice sand runs along the shore here, making it a nice spot to relax. The waters of the lake are a deep blue, reflecting perfectly the sheer cliffs to the north.
The lake looks inviting, and a smaller beach to the north provides a more isolated spot. Eastwards a large field leads towards a pass out of the Weyr, and heading southeast takes you across the center of the bowl. To the south lies the corral.
